If you are looking for a solution to insomnia and irregular sleep; the complex blackout blind could be the answer to your problems. This blind comes in a variety of styles, patterns, fabrics and finishes. Roller blinds are easy to fit and can be slipped behind your curtains without any messy stitching.

Here are ten of our favourite benefits.

The black canvas allows you more creative thought with your patterns and colours to match your home and mood. Whether you are in the mood for a light addition to your home in summer or wanting to get creative like the cut-out blackout blinds circling the Internet. These looks can range from cool skyscrapers to starry nights as you can create the personalized patterns starting with our black blackout blinds and proceeding with your creativity.

They stand as an innovative addition that will not interrupt your body clock. Your body’s body clock is largely affected by light and the biological clock, also known as the circadian rhythm can be affected by both light and darkness. This means that without a blackout blind we would be completely subject to the way that light sends signals for us to wake or sleep.

Privacy. At times it can be difficult to get a full coverage with your window, especially at night time when you would like to leave the light on. These blinds achieve a complete blackout both inside the house and for the outside world.

triple roller blind

Lowers energy bills. This is a great package, as you typically would have to compensate lighter, airy blinds for a higher bill, or even an investment in a fan or air con for a thicker curtain. The blackout blind is completely versatile and suitable for all seasons at no extra cost, giving you heat when you need it most.

Understanding the Roman Blind (12-02-2017)

Click to return to the top of the page.

Roman blinds, in their simplest form have been around for centuries, upon centuries. In the early days where people travelled via horse and carriage; on unpaved, cobbled roads. The roman blind came as a necessity for the home. Home owner’s used to hang dampened cloth over their windows, as a way to keep out the dust. This offered residents a sort of shelter from the blistering sun, and allowed for rest and little disturbance within the home. Originally, starting as a practical solution to an inevitable problem this soon turned into something much greater. Roman artistry shone through. People started to decorate their dampened cloths and create lavish, and extravert designs. Little has changed since those days, motorisation has come in yes, but the simplicity, and practicality with this blind is still rife.

As we continue to set new interior trends throughout 2017, one that continues on from last year is texture. A vast majority of homeowners are keen to add textures, and on-trend fabric designs into their home. Practical and stylish. A roman blind offers you so much potential as a homeowner. You can go for the most extravagant of designs, or stick with the more simplistic styles and opt for practicality rather than statement.

With Roman blinds, comes a more expensive price. But what is it that you are paying for? Understanding the process of how a blind is made, will ultimately guide you in what you spend on a blind for your home. How much you value the process, the fabric or the style will all help inform your decision. If these are all things that you consider when deciding on a blind type. Then a roman blind is definitely the style for you. You are paying for opulence and luxury.

Making a roman blind, has little in the way of a manufacturing process. It is simply, therefore a handmade process. The design of a roman blind is detail orientated, and intricacy holds prevalence throughout different styles. The process consists of complicated matters linking cross wise battern pockets. As a result, it is a labour intensive process. An understanding, an appreciation of this process is vital when spending that little extra.

Just from these pictures you can see the intricacy that goes into the hand crafted process. A roman blind is all about design, detail and indulgence.

A roman blind offers so many eventualities as a homeowner, and you can really let your imaginations run free. Interior trends worldwide, are shifting towards striking patterns and tonal matches. Are the days of the simplistic “Scandi” style behind us? In your home, you make your own rules. You can set your own interior trends.

My personal favourite is; statement! Statement pieces, furnishings or features I think really make a house a home. Eclipse’s style studio magazine included a vast array of styles, and textures which could be used in the home. From lavish velvet styles, to simplistic colour blushes there really are endless options.

A style that appealed to me most, and one that which is breaking into this years interior trends is Tartan. This is a more luxurious option. Translating to real, British heritage. Bold, and vibrant colours that fill the background, paired with intricate flecks of complimenting colours, to obtain the long beloved, glorious tartan style.

For me, these styles bring warmth, and homeliness inside. Making me want to snuggle up by the blazing fire, with a warm hot drink and a book. All cosy and warm. Perfect for the blisteringly cold nights.

The roman blind in context:

Here I will outline the prices you can expect of a Roman blind, so you can gage a typical spend. I will also touch further on the process, and benefits with the blinds. Excel one of our suppliers, described the process of making a roman blind. “Meticulously made by people who are proud to create quality products, to an exceptionally high professional standard. Produced using traditional skills whilst maintaining a production line which starts with the cutting of the fabric and lining, which are then sewn and assembled. The process, concludes with the addition of a headrail and cords which is then tested, adjusted and steamed. It is important to note that Excel make the blinds entirely made to measure to the customer’s requirements.” This process just highlights, the earlier mentioned handmade process and intricacy and care that goes into making this blind type.

Understanding the prices further:

RRP for a made to measure roman blind with standard lining. Size of window: 176 x 120 cm Average cost: roman blind with fabric in region of £15 to £35 per metre fabric, with deluxe headrail and side operated chain.

2017, The Year The World Goes Green (19-01-2017)

Click to return to the top of the page.

As we begin to embark on the beginning of 2017, it is time to sit back, and reflect. Reflect upon what made us happy in 2016, what made us unhappy, and what we want to achieve in 2017. It is time to rejuvenate ourselves. A new year sees the start of new opportunities, and saying goodbye to the old. Let us invite a new interior trend into our homes, and create new, revitalised sanctuaries.

At the end of last year, Pantone announced their colour of the year for 2017 as Greenery. The brand has been choosing colours of the year ever since 2000, and my goodness I am pleased with their choice this year. Hello, vibrancy and naturalness. 2017 is the year that the world goes green.

It is time to restore balance and harmony, into our homes and into our lives. Break the mould; stand out from the interior crowd. It is time to break away from minimalistic tones, and shake off the controversy that surrounds the ‘all white wall’ trend. It is time for the rejuvenation trend. Start the year with a positive Zen, a space full of harmonious features that make you feel at one. It is hard to imagine, that this love of classic neutrals that is so prevalent in today’s interior trends will ever shake off, but I think it is time.

What is the need for this clinical style of interior? Glorious sanctuaries can be made instead, right in your home. The Pantone colour Greenery signifies new beginnings. So isn’t a new year the best time to start?

The key is to ease new colour tones into your house slowly. As a designer, or simply a home owner you have to ask yourself what kind of room you are trying to create. What kind of feeling do you want to get from a specific room in your house? I feel it is essential to bring in colours that represent positivity and joy within the home. Psychologically the colour green is known to create balance and harmony, and having these colours surround you will influence your lifestyle, wellbeing and mind-set.

The introduction of subtle greens, complimented with natural greenery from nature and plants brings all the wonders of the outside, inside. Nothing compliments green more than nature. Natural plants bring positive life. You can restore the peace and Zen within your home with these features.

For a while now we have seen the rise of the upcycle trend. Upcycling is taking something old and creating it into something new. Bring plantation into your home in a more naturalistic, greener way. Say goodbye to the simple, plain vases. This is not the year of simple. Anything can be used. From jars, to drawers, to ladders. Open your minds to all the possibilities that old furniture or home accessories can offer.

For the more bold designer, the one that wants to take the leap of faith and go green. Green can offer vibrancy, create refinement and create a statement within your home. Make bold statements within your home. This eclectic fusion of nature and Zen introduces tranquillity.

It is clear to say that these tones blend themselves well to many other complimenting colours. It is important to understand, what looks best and what goes best. Interior is all about opinion, and what your eye as the designer feels fits best. Remember, you do not have to be qualified to design your home. Take pride in your home, showcase your interiors.

As I draw to an end, I feel that there are a few important things to note. The first being; to seek happiness within your home. At the end of a long, hard day I can think of nothing better than to relax, and be at peace within the comfort of my own home. Remember, that through studies from colour psychology the colours that surround your everyday life will have an impact on you and your attitude. Break away from monotone neutrals, and embark on a new journey. Find your pursuit of happiness.

Let 2017 be your year of rejuvenation and happiness. I wish nothing but balance and harmony to be restored to all.

Happy New Year.
